Box office failure for Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai!
Kaatru Veliyidai, another romantic flick from Mani Ratnam started it’s run smoothly at the Tamil Nadu box office. The hype the movie had builded up was massive and the songs were much soothing to the audience. All had expected the old classy Mani Ratnam but to be precise he had not risen up to the mark yet again.
According to the official stats, the movie had grossed Rs. 11 crores from the first three three days of it’s release, which was regarded as an excellent opening. A 70℅ drastic drop was seen in the A class theaters days later, which was a huge downfall. This resulted in the theater responses and the audience had once again blamed the director for his poor form.
The same scenario had been visible from the non Tamil states. Theaters in Andhra and Telangana had to replace the movie due to it’s below average performance reports. In Kerala, though the movie had got mixed reviews it still finds it hard to attract audiences, apart from the initial day. The movie released in the US too showed similar kind of signs. It had collected 1 and a half crores from the US markets, reports a trade source.
Notable positives in the movie just limits to the visual beauty captured by Ravi Varman, the dance sequences along with the maestro AR. Rahman’s melodious numbers. The Mani Ratnam magic which had gone someday still rests in a place where one can never think of. Yet the fans of the legendary director believe that he could find it one day and perform a visual treat that would be soothing for the audience of each kind!
