Exciting releases this summer

Every year, the April- May period is the money spinning season for the film industry. Most of the superstar movies are reserved to cash in on this holiday season. 2017 is also no different. Some highly exciting movies are waiting to hit screens in the next two months.

The Great Father- March 30

This Mammootty starrer directed by debutant Haneef Adeni is the most hyped movie of the year. The promos and teasers have sky rocketed the expectations of the audience. Mammootty has not had a blockbuster for sometime now. The Great Father is expected to break the jinx. Sneha, Arya, Shaam, Malavika Mohanan and IM Vijayan will be seen in pivotal characters. The movie, said to be a revenge thriller will hit screens all over Kerala on March 30.

Georgettan’s Pooram- April 1

Georgettan’s Pooram starring Dileep and Kerala State Award winner Rajisha Vijayan is scheduled to release on April 7. The movie, directed by Dr Love fame K Biju is a comedy entertainer. The film is entirely set in Thrissur and for the first time in his career, Dileep actor has used the Thrissur slang throughout a movie. Screenplay for the film is written by Y V Rajesh. Sharafudheen, Meenakshi, Renji Panicker and Vinay Forrt will be seen in supporting characters.

1971 Beyond Borders- April 7

Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s highly anticipated war drama 1971 Beyond Borders is all set to hit screens on April 7. The movie is a big budget war drama based on the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Mohanlal will be seen in a dual role in the movie as Major Mahadevan and his father Colonel Sahadevan. Telugu industry’s youth star Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh will also be seen in pivotal roles in the movie. 1971 Beyond Borders will have release in four languages- Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindu. Telugu version of the movie titled as 1971 Baratha Sathiradu will also hit screens on April 7.

Sakhavu- April 15

Nivin Pauly is all set for his first release of the year. His highly anticipated political drama, Sakhavu is gearing up to hits screens on April 15. The movie, directed by National award winner Sidharth Siva features Nivin in the role of Krishnakumar, a student leader from the Left front. The actor has pinned high expectations on this movie, which according to him will be an intense movie and not be just another political drama. It will have equal doses of humour, romance and machismo. Aparna Gopinath, Gayathri Suresh and Kollywood actress Aishwarya Rajesh are playing the female leads in the movie.

Baahubali 2- April 28

Whole of the nation is waiting for the release of this magnum opus. Baahubali 2 : The Conclusion, directed by SS Rajamouli is the sequel to Baahubali : The Beginning, released in 2015. The movie’s trailer was released recently. Upon release, it broke several records and is currently the most watched trailer in Indian cinema history. Expectations surrounding this movie are sky high. Auidence across the country are waiting with bated breath to know the truth behind why Kattappa killed Baahubali. April 28 is the date.

CIA aka Comrade In America- May 5

Dulquer Salmaan’s next release CIA, directed by Amal Neerad is scheduled to hit screens on May 5. CIA will be a mass entertainer with Amal Neerad’s touch of stylish filmmaking. Dulquer commands a huge fan following and when the two join, it is certain to register big numbers at the box office. Mark Chavarria, the action choreographer of Hollywood movies like Inception, Pearl Harbour, Terminator and Logan has worked for the stunts in CIA. Debutante Karthika Muraleedharan has played the female lead in the movie which also stars Soubin Shahir, John Vijay and Jinu Joseph in supporting roles.

So that makes it quite an exciting season for the movie buffs of the State.
