Farhan Akhthar and Sanjay Dutt to star in the Hindi remake of Jigarthanda
Karthik Subbaraj’s Jigarthanda is unarguably one of the best Tamil movies of the past decade. The movje had Bobby Simha and Siddharth in the lead roles. This black-comedy thriller went on to win a couple of National awards including the best supporting actor award for Bobby Simha.
Jigarthanda is now going to Bollywood as actor Ajay Devgn has bagged its Hindi remake rights. The multi-talented Farhan Akhthar and Sanjay Dutt will be reprising the roles played by Siddharth and Bobby Simha respectively. The movie will be directed by Nishikant Kamat, who is known for his films like Mardaani, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Drishyam.
The Hindi version of Jigarthanda will be produced by Ajay Devgn and his collaborator-producer, Abhinav Shuklaa, under their joint banner. Farhan will play a struggling filmmaker while Sanjay Dutt will be seen as a ruthless gangster. The original was set in Madurai but the Hindi version will be based in Maharashtra. Casting for the movie is presently underway and the makers are planning to go on floors by December-January.
Jigarthanda, released in 2014 is the story of an aspiring filmmaker’s attempts to make a realistic gangster flick. For that he decides to study the life of a real gangster, Assault Sethu, played to the T by Bobby Simha. His stunning performance in the movie was widely appreciated and won him several accolades. It will be interesting to see how the veteran Sanjay Dutt plays this challenging character.
