Imaan shares memories of SPB singing for Rajinikanth’s Annatthe

Music lovers across the world are grieving over the loss of SP Balasubrahmanyam, who breathed his last on September 25. SPB, as he is fondly called, passed away due to Covid-19 related ailments. Along with the general public, several leading celebrities from various fields have been sharing their immense love and admiration for the legend through their social media handles.

Even though he has left behind a legacy of over 40,000 songs for us to savour, the thought that one cannot hear SPB’s voice in new songs is still hitting many hard. One of the last songs he rendered was for the upcoming Rajinikanth film ‘Annatthe’.

SPB is known for lending several popular introduction songs of the superstar. For several years, it was like a tradition as Rajinikanth would burst into the screen backed by SPB’s energetic voice. When Pa Ranjith chose to break the trend with ‘Kabali’ and ‘Kaala’, many from withtin the industry had expressed their displeasure. However, for ‘Petta’, director Karthik Subbaraj and Anirudh brought him back for the chartbuster track ‘Marana Mass’. Anirudh continued the tradition with ‘Chumma Kizhi’ in ‘Darbar’.

‘Annatthe’ will be the last time ever that Rajinikanth would be appearing in a song with SPB’s alluring vocals. Imman who composed the track has tweeted photos taken during the recording session. He has written,

‘Annatthe’ directed by Siva is said to be a rural-based mass entertainer. The film has a star-studded cast, which includes four female leads — Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushbu and Nayanthara. It was originally planned as Diwali release in November. However, due to the virus outbreak, all plans had to be dropped and the film’s shoot is yet to resume.
