Kamal Haasan confirms sequel to his cult hit Thevar Magan
While Kamal Haasan is already busy with his political activities, he has still not lost his hunger for cinema. As reported earlier, he has Indian 2 with director Shankar coming up. In a surprise announcement made recently during a media interaction, Kamal has confirmed the sequel to his cult blockbuster Thevar Magan. The movie, released in 1992, was scripted by Kamal and directed by late Malayali filmmaker Bharathan.
Apart from Kamal, Thevar Magan had the legendary Sivaji Ganesan, Gauthami, Nasser and Revathy in major roles. The movie was chosen as India’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the 65th Academy Awards. It also bagged five National Film Awards, including the Best Tamil Film Award, Best Supporting Actress Award for Revathi, and a Special Jury Award for Sivaji. When a sequel for such a classic is made, expectations will naturally be sky-high.
Kamal Haasan did not reveal more details about the project but it will go on floors only after the completion of Indian 2. Pre-production works for Indian 2 is progressing at a brisk page. Shoot is expected to kick-start early next year. One of Kollywood’s leading banners, Lyca Productions is funding the movie.
