Kamal leads the lobby against small films in Kerala, says Vinod Mankara

Director Vinod Mankara has come out against the lobbying in Malayalam film industry through his Facebook post today. He had used strong words against the ones who are acting against films staying inside the film industry. The recently announced state awards generated wide criticisms from all sections of the society and Vinod Mankara also made these allegations in the light of that controversial award declaration by the state film award jury. Vinod Mankara’s film Ottamandaram also participated in the state award competition which expected to win some prestigious award as well. But jury avoided the film without even considering it, says Vinod Mankara.

Vinod Mankara in his Facebook post states that films which are made using small budgets are being destroyed by some people or some kind of lobbying is happening against these films with the only aim to pull it down from getting any appreciation or applause. He says the people from our own industry is behind this and that is the most painful thing in this issue. He says that famous director Kamal is leading this lobby with people like Vijaya Krishnan and other prominent members who are also part of this year’s state film award jury. They are just making every barriers possible before these small films. His film Ottamandaram is a victim of that and suffered this filthy attitude by Kamal several times including at the film festival, during the national award nomination etc.

He says that Bhama had given sterling performance in Ottamandaram and still she was not even considered for the best actress state award. And award was given to Nazriya which is the most controversial decision by the jury and common people also reacted against it strongly. The performance of Nandu was also ignored. Ramesh Narayan’s music for the film won people’s heart and the jury gave him award for best music director for another film which has even shocked the award winner itself.

Vinod Mankara says that we have to protest against this as we can’t believe a minister who knows nothing about cinema and we cannot trust people like Kamal or Vijaya Krishnan who is killing low budget good films for the sake of their own selfish motives.
