Karthi hands over cheque of Rs 25 lakhs to CMDRF and 10 lakhs to AMMA
Torrential rains, flash floods and a series of landslides have till now resulted in death of 79 people in Kerala. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts have been severely hit by the continuous rains. Private and public properties worth hundreds of crores have already been lost in the state. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had requested for donations to help better the situation of flood-affected people.
Following his request, various political parties, businessmen and celebrities have contributed generously to the Cheif Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF). Tamil actors Karthi and Suriya together donated an amount of Rs 25 lakhs to the relief fund. Karthi visited the CM in Trivandrum on Thursday to hand over the cheque personally. He also handed over a separate cheque of Rs 5 lakhs on behalf of the Tamil cinema actors body, Nadigar Sangam.
Sharing the CMDRF account details, Karthi tweeted,
Just met the hon’ble CM of Kerala. I understand the state needs more funds than relief material. Please donate generously to ”CMDRF”. #Keralafloods #CMDRF
Karthi also visited Mohanlal, who is shooting in the capital city for his upcoming movie Lucifer, to hand over a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs. This amount was promised by Suriya to the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors’ (AMMA’s) Guru Dakshana scheme, which is a pension plan for senior artists. Suriya was the chief guest at the 25th anniversary event of AMMA, which was held in May.
