Kerala Theatre strike; Bairavaa release to be affected

The stand off between the producers association and A-class theatre owners union- exhibitors federation is still continuing thereby blocking the release of many upcoming Malayalam movies. To tackle the existing crisis, the producers association have decided to release movies without the co-operation of exhibitors federation.

According to reports, Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa scheduled to hit screens worldwide on January 12 will not be distributed to those theatres which come under the Kerala State Exhibitors Federation. Producers association and distributors have decided to release the movie in multiplexes, government theatres and B class theatres. If any theatres under the exhibitors federation wish to screen the movie, they will have to sign an agreement complying with the producers association’s decisions before January 9.

Usually, Vijay’s movies release in a minimum of 150 theaters in the State. But this time due to the existing cinema strike, Bairavaa will release in only 70 odd theatres. This will be a great setback for the exhibitors federation as Vijay’s movies register good numbers at the Kerala box office.

Bairavaa, directed by Azhagiya Tamizh Magan fame Bharathan is a rural mass entertainer. Keerthy Suresh is playing the female lead opposite Vijay for the first time through this movie. The movie is produced by Vijaya Productions.

According to the producers association, Malayalam movies will start releasing from 19th of this month. Dr Biju’s Kaadu Pookkunna Neram was released in 34 theatres yesterday.
