Kunchacko Boban worked in Take Off without taking any remuneration

Late director Rajesh Pillai was one of the pioneers who paved way for new age filmmaking in Malayalam. His terrifically executed road movie Traffic released in 2011 is considered as one of the best Malayalam movies in the past decade.

Many close acquaintances of the director from within and outside the film industry have come together for a movie titled Take Off, made as a tribute to him.

Take Off marks the debut directorial of renowned editor Mahesh Narayanan, who has worked with Rajesh Pillai in Traffic as an editor and a scriptwriter in Mili. The movie is produced by Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker in association with Rajesh Pillai Films.

Kunchacko Boban, Parvathy Menon, Fahadh Faasil and Asif Ali play lead roles in the movie which is about the plight of nurses who get trapped in Iraq during the war period. Kunchacko Boban is playing a male nurse in the movie, a character very rarely enacted by Mollywood actors.

Interestingly, the actor has not taken a single penny as remuneration for working in the movie. It is well known that the actor was very close to Rajesh Pillai with whom he has worked in Traffic and Vettah.

Kunchako Boban’s character Dr. Abel Tharakan in the path breaking Traffic won him rave reviews from the critics and the audience. The movie showcased an unseen side of the actor who was mostly confined to chocolate boy and the guy next door kind of roles till then.

Rajesh Pillai’s last movie, Vettah also had Kunchacko Boban in the lead along with Manju Warrier and Indrajith Sukumaran. His performance in the movie was also well received.

Take Off is jointly written by Mahesh Narayanan and PV Shaji Kumar. Sanu Varghese who has worked in biggies like Vishwaroopam, Thoongvanam, Wazir etc has cranked the camera in this movie. Abhilash Balachandran is the editor while Shaan Rahman has composed the music.

Take Off was shot extensively in in Ras al-Khaimah, Hyderabad and Kochi. It is scheduled to release in March next year.
