Lucifer’s success in international arena should encourage Malayalam filmmakers to explore newer markets: Taran Adarsh

Mohanlal starrer ‘Lucifer’ is scripting a new history with its tremendous run worldwide. Within two weeks of its release, the movie has stormed well past the Rs 50 crore mark and is set to enter the elite Rs 100 crore club. Apart from Kerala and RoI centres like Bangalore and Chennai, the movie is doing huge business in major overseas centres like the US and GCC. The movie is also doing extremely well in European countries, New Zealand and Australia.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh who keeps a tap on the earnings of Indian movies in overseas centres has called ‘Lucifer’, a trendsetter for Malayalam movies. According to him, the movie is doing exceptional business everywhere, despite facing stiff completion from other language movies. He has also added that the success of ‘Lucifer’ in the international arena should open the eyes of the Malayalam industry and encourage makers to explore newer markets, besides the traditional ones.

Taran Adarsh has tweeted,

#Lucifer has emerged a trendsetter for #Malayalam films internationally… Earlier, #Malayalam films would record big numbers in certain markets [UAE-GCC in particular], but #Lucifer is doing exceptional biz everywhere, despite other language movies posing tough competition…

The super success of #Lucifer in the international arena should open the eyes of the #Malayalam film industry… And encourage makers of #Malayalam films to explore newer markets, besides the traditional ones, of course. @comScore

‘Lucifer’, directed by Prithviraj and scripted by Muriali Gopy, is a mass entertainer with a political backdrop. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie, that has a star studded supporting cast.
