Malayalam cinema at 63rd National Film Award

63rd National film awards has been announced today and the jury headed by veteran director Ramesh Sippy had decided the award this year. As you all know, Amitabh Bachchan and Kangana won best actor and best actress award respectively for performances in Piku and Tanu weds Manu returns. Bahubali won best film award and Sanjay Leela Bansali won best director award. 33 Malayalam cinemas were nominated this year for national award and it was an all-time record for Mollywood. Out of which, 10 films had selected to contest in the final round as well. But it is sad that Mollywood does not get any main awards this year. But still we got some recognition in the national awards, which makes us proud.

Jayasurya, had won the special jury mention for best actor for his performance in the film Lukka Chuppi and Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam. Child actor Gaurav Menon had won best child artist male award for Ben. Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal by Dr. Biju had won the award for best environmental film and VK Prakash directorial film Nirnnayakam had won the award for best socially relevant flick. M Jayachandran had won the best music director award for his song in the film named Ennu Ninte Moideen. The song Kathirunnu Kathirunnu had helped him to win this award.

Non-feature films also bring 3 awards for Malayalam as Christo Tomi directorial short film Kamuki had won best short film award. Neelan had won special jury mention for his direction for the film Amma. Professor Aliyar had won the best commentary award in the documentary named Arangile Nithya Vismayam, which was about Guruchemanchery Kunjiraman Nair. Pathemari directed by Salim Ahammad was chosen as best Malayalam movie of last year.

Priya Manasam, the Sanskrit film directed by Mollywood film Maker Vinod Mankara had won best Sanskrit movie award. Even though Mollywood had won not many main awards, still Malayalam cinema had made its presence felt at National film awards this year too.
