Mammootty visits and congratulates Olympic medalist PR Sreejish at his home!
PR Sreejesh, the goalkeeper of Indian men’s hockey team that won bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics, returned back home on Tuesday. V Abdurahiman, Minister for Sports and representatives from State Sports Council, Olympic Association and Hockey Association were present at the Cochin airport. Sreejesh then travelled in an open jeep receiving all the love and adulation from the public. At his home Kizhakkambalam in Ernakulam district, he received a warm welcome from his family members and residents in the locality.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty made a surprise visit to Sreejesh’s home and congratulated him on his historic achievement. He was accompanied by film producer Anto Joseph and production controller Badusha. Photos of their visit have been shared in social medias.
Sreejesh is the first Malayali in win an Olympic medal in 49 years. Apparently, the first Keralite to win an Olympic medal was Manuel Frederick, who, too, was the goalkeeper of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team that won bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.
Last day, the Kerala government announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore and a job promotion for Sreejesh. The Kerala cabinet also decided to promote him as a Joint Director in the Department of General and Higher Education. He is currently serving as a Deputy Director. The government also announced a Rs 5 lakh reward for the eight sportspersons from Kerala who made it to the Tokyo Olympics.
