Marakkar – Arabi Kadalinte Simham: Mohanlal-Priyadarshan team’s magnum opus announced!
Talks about the legendary combo of Priyadarshan and Mohanlal teaming up for movie on Kunjali Marakkar have been doing the rounds for a long time now. Finally, the project was officially announced today (April 18) with a title launch event held in Crowne Plaza, Kochi. The movie has been titled as Marakkar – Arabi Kadalinte Simham a.k.a Marakkar – The King of Arabian Sea.
Mohanlal’s own banner Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this mega project jointly with Dr Roy CJ’s Confident Group and Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment. Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era and Mohanlal will be seen playing one of them. According to Priyadarshan, the movie will be a semi-factious with bits of history and imagination.
Along with Mohanlal, leading actors from other Indian film industries will be playing major roles in the movie. Besides them, British and Chinese actors will also be part of the movie. As of now, the makers have planned to start shooting on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1) and will extend up to three months. Majority of the portions happen within a sea, so VFX works will consume a lot of time.
Priyadarshan said that they will get an idea about the release date only after they enter the post-production phase. He was hesitant to reveal about the budget but informed that they have planned to keep it around Rs 100 crores. The movie will be dubbed in all major Indian languages and other foreign languages like Chinese and Arabic. More details regarding the full cast and crew are expected to be announced in the coming days.
