Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol enters the 50 crore club; Jibu Jacob thanks the audience

Mohanlal’s latest release Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has officially entered the 50 crore club of Mollywood. Earlier in the day, Mohanlal shared the happy news with his followers through his Facebook.

The movie is directed by Jibu Jacob. His debut movie, Vellimoonga starring Biju Menon in the lead was a sleeper hit, one of the highest grossers in 2014. MVT was initially scheduled to hit screens during the Christmas season but had to be postponed due to the theatre strike. Jibu Jacob had expressed his disappointment over the lost Christmas season. But director is now elated about the success of the movie and thanked the audience on behalf of his team.

Mohanlal and Meena played the lead roles in the movie. MVT is Mohanlal’s third successive Malayalam movie to enter the club after Oppam and Pulimurugan. Telugu movie Janatha Garage, released before Oppam was a 100 crore grosser. So that makes it his fourth successive movie across all languages to enter the 50 crore club.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol is written by M Sindhuraj based on James VJ’s popular short story Pranayopanishath. The story revolves around a middle aged couple who rediscover their lost love from the boredom of their routine life.

Upon release, the movie garnered widespread appreciation from the critics and common audience. Families took a particular liking for the movie and flocked the theatres in large numbers.

Mohanlal essayed the character of Ulahannan, a panchayath secretary while Meena played his wife Aniyamma, a homemaker. Jacobinte Swargarajyam fame Aima Rose Sebastian and Sanoop Santhosh played their kids in the movie. Anoop Menon, Neha Saxena, Srinda Arhaan, Alencier Ley, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Rahul Madhav, Kalabhavan Shajon and many other actors played the supporting characters.
