Mani Ratnam directorial and Dulquer Salmaan- Nithya Menon starrer Tamil flick OK Kanmani aka O Kadhal Kanmani after getting mixed reviews from many critics and common people also got good collection from the box office as well. The film had done good business in India as well as in overseas market. The film had graced the silver screens on 17th April this year and the collection report of 25 days of the film has arrived. It says that the film had grossed rupees 40 crore and 90 lakhs from worldwide. From Indian market it has got rupees 26 crore 30 lakhs rupees and from outside India it had collected rupees 14 crore 60 lakhs.
From the reviews it was first believed that the film will be a huge success at box office but after the first few days the collections dropped drastically and it has reached only to the level of an ordinary hit status. The wait of Mani Ratnam for a huge success is still continuing as this also raised not up to the mark as far as box office collections is concerned. The performance of Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon was the one which got more appreciation in this film with the technical aspects like DOP and music by P C Sreeram and A R Rahman respectively.
But those great opinions by celebrities does not help the film to get a huge success but still not disappointed completely. The overseas market collection is the one which really helped the film to get to the 40 crore mark and reach to the hit status. Mani ratnam’s lasr two films were not at all done well at box office which are Ravan (which is bilingual) and Kadal respectively.
Kadal has a completely young star cast with only Aravind Swamy was the popular figure in this. The much hyped Ravan had a huge star cast including Chiyan Vikram, and Prithviraj along with Aishwarya Rai in Tamil and Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram along with her in Bollywood. Still it failed at the box office and we can say that even though OK Kanmani is not a big hit it is a relief for Mani Ratnam for sure.
