Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and shutting down of theatres, many filmmakers are pondering over direct OTT release. In Bollywood, Ayushmann Khuranna-Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ will be the first to release after the lockdown started. The film is set to premiere in Amazon Prime on June 12.

Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is another film that is gearing up for OTT release. If reports are to be believed, the film’s streaming rights have been bagged by Hotstar for a whopping amount of Rs 125 crores. Usually digital rights of a big star film gets sold at prices of Rs 60-70 crores. But since ‘Laxxmi Bomb’ will not be having a theatrical release and is being straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is the official remake of blockbuster Tamil film ‘Kanchana’ aka ‘Muni 2’. Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani and Tussshar Kapoor play lead roles in the film. Raghava Lawrence, who starred and directed the original, is helming the Hindi version as well.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ was originally scheduled for release during the Eid season. Even though it would have clashed with Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe’, it is widely believed that the film had the potential of earning over 200 crore at the box office. Currently, the team is busy with the post-production works. It is learnt that film will not be hitting the OTT platforms at least till a month after the lockdown is lifted.
