Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan’s magnum opus Marakkar – Arabikadalinte Simham with Mohanlal is getting ready to go on floors on Kerala Piravi Day (November 1). Pre-production works for the movie are currently underway. This epic film has been planned to be made on a budget of over Rs 100 crores. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly funding this movie.
Priyadarshan has roping in some of the best available actors and technicians for the movie. Sabu Cyril is handling the production design and National award winner Tirru will be cranking the camera. Latest buzz is that, talented young composer Rajesh Murugesan has been signed for the movie.
Rajesh is known for his blockbuster songs in ‘Neram’ and ‘Premam’. Though the makers are yet to make an official announcement, news about him being part of Marakkar are already doing the rounds in social medias. If it is indeed true, then Rajesh has a huge challenge ahead of him. Composing for such an epic film like Marakkar is definitely a big ask for the youngster.
Markkar – Arabikadalinte Simham tells the story of Kunjali Marakkar and Mohanlal plays the titular role.
Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era. This movie’s story is reportedly based on the fourth Marakkar whose life apparently had the most interesting elements.
According to Priyadarshan, the movie will be a semi-fictious one with bits of history and imagination. While Mohanlal plays the fourth Marakkar, veteran actor Madhu is playing the first among them, named Kutyali Marakkar. Pranav Mohanlal will be essaying the younger part of Mohanlal’s character. Tamil actor Prabhu and Bollywood actor Suneil Shetty will also be playing crucial roles in the movie.
