Premam show cancelled in Kozhikode, irked fans destroy the theater

Disturbing news has emerged from a theater in Kozhikode. Fans who got upset after the second show of Premam was cancelled dismantled the theater. The incident took place in Apsara theatre last night. As usual, the show began at the scheduled time of 9:15 p.m and it reached the intermission around 10: 25 pm. However, the show did not resume even after 10 minutes. Initially, fans could not apprehend what was happening and gradually certain groups of fans became intemperate. They tore down the screen and knocked down the windows, chairs and the doors of the theater.

The theatre authorities tried to take control of the situation but were unsuccessful in pacifying the fans. Having no other option, they called the police officials for assistance.  Police officials arrived at the theater within short span of time.The fans in the Apsara theater was so ungovernable that they had to make use of baton charge to tackle the situation. There were many women and children present in the theater to watch the movie. People who came to the theater with the family left the place before the ruckus. However, a good portion of audience was determined to express their anger and was not willing to leave the theater.

After being alarmed of the situation in the theater, a large group of police officers under the supervision of S.I. dashed to the theater. Even though police officials tried to conciliate the fans, furious fans did not pay heed to their requests. The theater owner Josekutty clarified that the show was stopped due to the technical issues and even assured that they will make arrangements for the same audience to watch the movie on Friday.

He also made it clear that those who are not able to watch the movie on Friday can approach them with tickets on Thursday morning for refunds. Even after the assurance from the police and the theater authorities some fans remained disgruntled and in the end, police officers used batons to restrain them. The theater authorities have commented that they have suffered the loss of at least 15 lakhs including the destruction of the screen.
