Producer need not back away when Mohanlal and MT Vasudevan Nair and joining hands: Tomichan Mulakupadam

Recently, a sensational announcement was made about the much talked about feature film adaptation of Randamoozham. MT Vasudevan Nair’s award winning novel after a lot of speculations is finally being made into a movie with Mohanlal playing the lead role of Bheemasenan. Ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon will be helming this project.

The movie is titled as The Mahabharata and will have many big names from all over the world in both the cast and crew department. It will be made as a multilingual in two parts and the makers are eyeing to release it in 2020. Another startling aspect of this movie is that it is being made on a whopping Rs 1000 crores. UAE based businessman Dr BR Shetty is funding this movie.

Soon after the announcement was made official, there were widespread discussions about how the makers will be able to recover the huge investment made. Tomichan Mulakupadam, the producer of Malayalam cinema’s biggest ever blockbuster Pulimurugan, in a recent interview was asked whether he will come forward to produce a movie of such magnitude.

Tomichan said that before investing in a movie, the assessment of brains behind the project is very important. He should be convinced with the calibre of the people who are planning such a huge project. In Mahabharata’s case, Tomichan feels, there is no reason for producer BR Shetty to back away as two heavy weights like Mohanlal and MT Vasudevan Nair and joining hands. He also added that he will be able to produce a 200 crore project but only if he feels absolutely certain that he can recover that investment.

MT Vasudevan Nair’s Randamoozham is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha, told from Bheeman’s perspective. The writer felt that only Mohanlal could do justice to that role, since it has several shades and layers. Mohanlal through his blog informed that he will be dedicating two years of his acting career to concentrate entirely on playing Bheeman’s part. The actor will undergo a complete makeover for the movie in addition to undergoing various training under exeperts. Fingers crossed for this magnum opus!
