Rambo actress Paz Vega to star in Mohanlal’s Barroz

Even before going on floors, there is a huge hype surrounding Mohanlal’s directorial debut film ‘Barroz’. As informed by the makers, it is an ambitious fantasy film that has been planned on a grand scale. Mohanlal has announced that Spanish actors Rafael Amargo and Paz Vega will be part of the cast. The latter is an award-winning actress well known her performances in films like credits include Sex and Lucia, Spanglish, 10 Items or Less and All Roads Lead to Rome. She is also part of the upcoming Sylvester Stallone starrer ‘Rambo: Last Blood’.

‘Barroz’ is written by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the guardian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years. In Mohanlal’s own words, “Barroz is set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa. It is about the shared heritage that we inherited from our ancestors.”

Besides directing the film, Mohanlal is also playing the titular character. Rafael Amargo will be essaying Vasco Da Gama’s part in the film. Since it is a global story, several other foreign actors are expected to be part of the movie’s cast.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing ‘Barroz’ under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The makers have signed KU Mohanan signed as the cinematographer and 13-year-old child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram to compose music. The movie has been planned to be shot in exotic locations in Goa, Portugal and some other foreign countries. Pre-production works have already commenced and the movie is set to start rolling in October. Apart from Malayalam, it will be dubbed and released in all major Indian languages.
