Ranbir Kapoor to play Yuvraj Singh in his biopic?

Sports dramas and biopics are currently the flavour of the season in Bollywood. Two of the nation’s biggest blockbusters last year, Sultan and Dangal were sports dramas with the latter being inspired from the real life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat.

Cricketing biopics have been the hot favourites of filmmakers in Bollywood of late. It all started with the biopic on the life of tainted cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin was released last year. Emraan Hashmi played Azhar’s character in the movie. Next to follow was the biopic on Indian cricket’s most successful captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, directed by Neeraj Pandey had Sushant Singh Rajput stepping into the shoes of Dhoni. The movie was one of last year’s biggest blockbusters, registering over 100 crores from the box office. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic Sachin : A Billion Dreams is all set to release on May 26 this year.

Now we hear about some plans to make a biopic on popular cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s life. From the Bollywood grapevine, we learn that the groundwork for the movie has already started. Hot and happening star Ranbir Kapoor has been approached to play Yuvraj’s character in the movie.

During the promotions of his last release Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the actor himself had expressed his desire to play the role of Yuvraj in the cricketer’s biopic.

Yuvraj, one of India’s biggest match winners in limited overs cricket is a true hero in every sense. He was the player of the tournament in India’s World Cup wins in 2007 and 2011. Yuvi, as fondly called in the cricketing world, fought cancer to help India win the World Cup in 2011. He is seen up as an inspiration by many for putting up a brave fight against a life threatening disease to return back to play for the country. At 35, he is still representing the country in the limited overs format.

Interestingly, Ranbir is currently working on another biopic. He is playing the lead in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. The actor recently put on a few kilos to achieve Sanjay’s looks for the movie.
