Santosh Sivan to handle cinematography in Barroz
Mohanlal’s directorial debut ‘Barroz’ was supposed to go on floors earlier this year but due to the pandemic, the makers had to put on hold their plans. They are now eyeing to start works early next year. It is a highly ambitious film scripted by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’.
The makers have got Santosh Sivan on board as the DOP. KU Mohanan was initially part of the project but it now seems like he has opted out due to other commitments. Santosh Sivan, who has vast experience in cranking camera for several big scale projects, should prove to be a great addition to the team.
‘Barroz’ is planned to be made on a huge canvas in 3D format. It is the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years until his true heir comes back to protect it. The film is set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa.
While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the supporting cast mostly comprises of foreign actors from US, Spain, Portugal and Ghana. A 13-year-old child artiste named Shayla McCaffrey, Spanish actor Rafael Amargo and award-winning actress Paz Vega were signed to play prominent roles but due to the unforeseen delay, it remains to be seen if they continue to be part of the project Apart from Mohanlal, Prathap Pothen is the only other Malayali actor in the film as of yet.
Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
