Syam Pushkaran’s next will be a thriller
There was a time when a scriptwriter’s name would attract the Malayali audience to theatres. Those were the heydays of MT Vasudevan Nair, Reghunath Paleri and Lohithadas. From the current generation, if there is any writer who could do the same, it has to be Syam Pushkaran. Barely ten films old, Syam has already carved a niche for himself in the industry. All his recent works have been well received and has made him a favourite in social media circles.
Syam’s last film, ‘Kumbalangi Nights, which is also only his second as an independent writer, has emerged as a hit, both critically and commercially. Ever since its release, there have been lot of rumours about his next film. In a recent interview, Syam had said that he would soon be scripting a film for director Dileesh Pothan, with whom he had collaborated in the National award winning films, ‘Mahehsinte Prathikaram’ and ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’.
Other details about the film were not divulged.
More recently, during an interaction session, Syam revealed that he is attempting to script a thriller next. He has often expressed his wish to explore different genres like how KG George did. It remains to be seen if Syam’s next with Pothan turns out to be a thriller. Their films normally fall under the slice-of-life realistic category, so it will be interesting to see how they make a full-fledged thriller film.An official confirmation in this regard is still awaited.
