Technical standards of Veeram will be up there with Hollywood movies: Jayaraj

Director Jayaraj’s highly anticipated epic historic drama Veeram is finally gearing up for release on February 24. The movie is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. It is the fifth installment in director Jayaraj’s Navarasa series.

The movie was screened at several film festivals like BRICS Film Festival, IFFK and IFFI, Goa. Prior to release, the movie is gaining unprecedented publicity for a Malayalam movie. Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan have promoted the movie and that has helped a great deal in increasing the hype.

Veeram features Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role of Chandu Chekavar, a warrior from the Vadakkan Pattukal of North Malabar region in Kerala. The movie was filmed as a trilingual in Malayalam, Hindi and English.

Kunal Kapoor worked hard for months to develop a warrior’s physique in addition to learning sword fight and the martial art, Kalaripayattu for playing his part in the movie. The martial art form will be showcased like never before in a Malayalam movie.

Director Jayaraj in a recent interview has assured that the technical standards of Veeram will be on par with Hollywood movies. Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar has choreographed the stunts in the movie.

Award winning composer Jeff Rona, who was an associate of the legendary Hans Zimmer, is handling the music department.

Oscar and Emmy award winning make-up artist Trefor Proud is also part of the technical team of Veeram. Veteran cinematographer S Kumar has cranked the camera while Appu N Bhattathiri has handled the edits.

Veeram is made on a budget of nearly 35 crores. The team shot most portions in the Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad and Agra. Chandramohan Pillai and Pradeep Rajan of Chandrakala Arts jointly produced this big budget movie.
