Tremendous opening in China; Dangal closing in on Baahubali 2
We had recently reported about Dangal creating waves at the China box office after releasing on May 5. The movie was released as Shuai Jiao Baba or Let’s Wrestle Father in Chinese.
Dangal raked in a whopping Rs 72.68 crores from the opening weekend itself in China. According to latest reports, at the end of its 4th day, the movie has entered the 100 crore club in China.
The movie, during it’s initial theatrical run did an overall business of 740 crores. Now that it has grossed another 100 crores from the China box office, it is nearing the 900 crore mark.
Thus Dangal has toppled PK’s lifetime collection and is now the second highest grossing Indian movie only after Baahubali. If it manages to continue the blockbuster run in China, it can certainly become the second Indian movie to enter the 1000 crore club after Baahubali.
Aamir Khan enjoys a huge fan base in China as his film PK had also crossed the 100 crore mark in China. The actor even made an appearance in the country before the film’s release. It was also screened at the Beijing Film Festival this year.
Dangal, directed by Nitish Tiwari is inspired from the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters to world class wrestlers. Aamir Khan essayed Mahavir Singh Phogat’s character while Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar played his daughter’s parts.
