After Vidheyan, Mammootty’s Peranbu gets nominated for NETPAC award at Rotterdam Film Festival

As we had earlier reported, Mammootty’s Tamil movie Peranbu was recently screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). Based on the voting of the festival audience, Peranbu also secured the 20th position amongst the 187 films considered for the audience award category. Now, Peranbu has added another feather to its cap. The movie has been nominated for the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) award at IFFR.

This is the second time a Mammootty starrer is being nominated for the IFFR. His 1994 movie Vidheyan has previously won the prestigious NETPAC award at IFFR. It was the first movie to win the award after the category was introduced in 1995. Vidheyan, directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan also won Mammootty a National award.

Peranbu is said to be a strong contender for this year’s NETPAC award. Ram has directed this movie which is said to be an intense emotional family drama featuring Mammootty as a caring father. He plays the role of Amudhan, a middle-class father working as a taxi driver abroad. The movie also has Anjali, Sarath Kumar, Baby Sadhana, transgender artist Anjali Ameer, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kaniha and Samuthirakani playing significant roles.

Perabu is produced by PL Thennappan under the banner Sri Rajalakshmi Films. The movie will be releasing in India soon after it completes its round on the festival circuit.
