Vijay’s Neyveli selfie is the most retweeted tweet on Twitter in 2020!

As the year 2020 comes to an end, Twitter has released a list of the hashtags and trends that dominated the year. Tamil superstar’s selfie with fans is the most retweeted tweet of 2020 from India. As of now, it has been retweeted over 1,59,000 times. The photo was taken at Neyveli at the sets of his upcoming movie ‘Master’. It came at a time when the actor was troubled by Income Tax raids at his properties and later when BJP activists staged protests at the film’s location.

Earlier this year, in February, Income Tax (I-T) department landed on the sets on ‘Master’ and investigated the star regrading supposed financial irregularities in connection with the blockbuster success of his last released film ‘Bigil’. Several properties belonging to the film’s producers AGS Entertainment, financier Anbu Chezhiyan and Vijay were raided by the officials.

Vijay was investigated continuously regarding tax evasion for 30 long hours before he was let off with a clean chit. After completing all the formalities on February 7, he returned to ‘Master’ location, where he was welcomed by hundreds of his hardcore fans. As soon as the actor landed on the sets, BJP cadres started protesting demanding the makers to stop the film’s shooting. They were protesting against the NLC administration for permitting shoot in a mining belt.

The film’s crew had already obtained permission to shoot at the venue for 10 days by paying a sum of Rs 25,000 per day. Later, police officers intervened and cleared the gathering. It is widely presumed that it was a targeted attack against Vijay who had voiced against the central government’s various policies like demonetization and the implementation of GST.

After the protests by BJP members, thousands of Vijay fans thronged outside ‘Master’ sets as a sign of support for the star and the crew. Vijay acknowledged the huge crowd by climbing on top of a van and clicking a selfie with them. The video of him waving hands at his hardcore fans and clicking selfie had gone viral across all social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s tweet announcing the pregnancy of his wife Anushka Sharma has become the most liked tweet of the year in India. #COVID19 held the first place in top hashtags followed by #SushantSinghRajput and #Hathras. Sushant’s last released film ‘Dil Bechara’ and ‘IPL2020’ was the top film and sport hashtags from India for the year.

In politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweet on lighting lamps as a sign of support to the health workers during the initial phase of Corona outbreak was the most retweeted. Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s tweet expressing gratitude for a letter of appreciation by PM Modi was the most retweeted.
