Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay movie Theri is the only blockbuster in Kollywood 2016
The year 2016 has come to a mid-point as 6 months has been gone by. The half yearly box office reports from Kollywood has come and it suggests that Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay starrer Theri is the only movie that acquired a blockbuster status in Tamil Nadu. It had collected 50 crore producer’s share from Tamil Nadu alone. The film had done well in Kerala and Karnataka as well.
The Telugu version of the movie also done great and the Hindi channel rights of the movie had fetched 6 crore. Overseas market also contributed great to the success of this film and it emerged as the clear cut box office winner of this year from Kollywood. Atlee had written and directed this movie which is bankrolled by Kalaipuli S Thanu.

Almost 108 films released this year in Kollywood till now and it is the highest number when we consider other prominent film industries in India. But, among these 108 films, they had only 1 blockbuster, 3 super hits, 4 hits and 6 films that just managed to get break even status.
Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajinimurugan, Madhavan’s Irudhi Sutru and Vijay Antony’s Pichaikkaran are the 3 super hits of the year in Kollywood. Vijay Sethupathy starrer Sethupathi, Thozha by Nagarjuna-Karthi team etc also done well at box office in Tamil Nadu.
