Arvind Kejriwal accuses PM Narendra Modi in the Paytm issue

Paytm one of the most popular online recharge platforms in the country, on Wednesday advertised in a leading newspaper, congratulating PM for his bold decision. A big photo of Narendra Modi was also used in the advertisement

This advertisement was published on the next morning after the demonetization announcement by the government on 8 November.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener, Arvind Kejriwal had initially maintained silence over government’s demonetization decision. But after the Paytm advertisement, he could no longer hold it back.

The Paytm ad on front pages of various newspapers on 9 and 10 November, thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi “on taking the boldest decision in the financial history of independent India!”.

Arvind Kejriwal called it a shameful act for a Prime Minister’s photo to be used in a private company’s advertisement. This is the second time in recent times when a private service provider has featured the Prime Minister’s picture in its ads. Earlier Reliance Jio did the same on 2nd September, a day after the official launch of its mobile and data service.

Arvind Kejriwal asked who will take actions against these companies if they did something wrong. He also asked about the relation between these private sectors and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also accused the PM of informing his party members about the demonetisation in advance.

The Prime Minister on Tuesday had announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes in an attempt to stop the counterfeit not circulation and to check black money in the country.
