Kerala Box Office: VIP 2 Collection Report 7 Days

Dhanush’s VIP 2, one of the most anticipated Tamil movies of the year, was released worldwide on August 11. This Dhanush starrer is the sequel for his 2014 superhit movie Velai Illa Pattadhari aka VIP. The movie is directed by Dhanush’s sister-in-law and filmmaker Soundarya Rajinikanth.

Mohanlal’s Aashirvad Cinemas, who acquired the distribution rights, released the movie in a great number of screens all over Kerala. VIP 2 was opened to largely mixed reviews from the critics. Most of them have stated that the sequel has failed to match up to the first part and that it could not live up to the huge expectations. However, the critic reviews have not had a big impact in the box office earnings.

VIP 2 movie has had an average opening week collection in Kerala.

According to collection reports our trade sources, VIP 2 has managed to gross Rs 3.80 crores from its first week run in the state. Dhanush enjoys good popularity in Kerala and his VIP was a massive success in the state. So it remains to be seen how the movie will fare in the coming weeks.

Dhanush himself has has written the story and dialogues for VIP 2. Bollywood actress Kajol has made a comeback to Kollywood after a long gap of nearly two decades with VIP 2. She is playing the role of Vasundhara Parameshwar, a rich and influential industrialist who is pitted against Dhanush’s Raghuvaran.

Amala Paul plays Dhanush’s pair and she is reprising her character, Shalini from the first part. Samuthirakani, Vivek, Cell Murugan and Hrishikesh are also part of the cast. Sean Rolden replaced Anirudh to handle the music department. Malayali cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Sameer Thahir is man behind the visuals in VIP 2. The movie is bankrolled by Kalaippuli S Thanu’s V Creations.
