Aadhivaasi: Sarath Appani to star in film based on 2018 lynching of Attapadi tribal youth Madhu
Sarath Appani will be seen playing the lead role in ‘Aadhivaasi’ (The Black Death), a film based on the 2018 lynching of a Attapadi tribal youth named Madhu. Directed by Vijeesh Mani, the film will be shot in the Muduga language spoken by the Muduga tribal community in Attapadi.
In February 2018, Madhu was beaten to death by a group of people after accusing him accused of stealing rice and groceries. The incident was widely condemned and widespread protests were staged during that time.
For playing Madhu’s role, Sarath has been learning the language for the past six months. The film’s dialogues are penned by Thangaraj M and the lyrics are written by Chandran Mari.
Vijeesh Mani is known for making tribal language films, ‘Mmmmm’ (Kurumba) and ‘Netaji’ (Irula). ‘Aadhivaasi’ marks his reunion with producer Sohan Roy. His Aries Group of Companies is backing the film, which is set to go on floors on October 10 in Attapadi.
