Aashiq Abu’s next with Soubin Shahir titled as Devanganangal Kayyozhinja Tharakam?

We had earlier reported about Aashiq Abu and Soubin Shahir teaming up for a fantasy film. Unni R was initially supposed to script the film but now Muhsin Parari is penning the screenplay. Apparently, it is a fascinating story of a ‘gandharvan’ who lands in Earth. Soubin will be essaying the gandharvan’s role in the film.

In a recent casual chat with his followers in Instagram, Aashiq Abu confirmed that his next is indeed a fantasy film and it is titled as ‘Devanganangal Kayyozhinja Tharakam’. It must be remembered that these are the opening lines of a famous song from the 1991 film ‘Njan Gandharvan’. The film directed by the legendary Padmarajan was about a girl and her passion for gandharvan, a celestial lover who is invisible to others. It is till date considered as a cult classic by Malayalam movie lovers.

Aashiq Abu’s film is expected to be a different take on the subject. It will steer clear of the usual stereotypes associated with the gandharva concept and instead shape up as a socially relevant one. Rima Kallingal, who was last seen in ‘Virus’, will be playing a major role. Girish Gangadharan of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ and ‘Jallikattu’ fame will be handling the cinematography.

Fantasy is a genre that has seldom been tried in Malayalam, so cinephiles will be eager to watch this film. Apart from that, Aashiq Abu has also brought together a solid team, so expectations will be quite high. Shoot was supposed to begin this month but due to the Corona virus outbreak, the makers have been forced to change plans.
