Actor Irrfan Khan passes away at 53!
One of Indian cinema’s finest actors, Irrfan Khan has passed away. He has been battling cancer for the last two years. The 53-year-old breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai where was admitted on Tuesday due to colon infection.
Irrfan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikder and two sons, Ayan and Babil. Tragedy has struck the family twice as Irrfan’s mother Saeeda Begum passed away just last Saturday in Jaipur. It is reported that he could not attend his mom’s funeral due to his illness and the nationwide lockdown.
Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018 and sought treatment in the UK for a year. He returned back to India in February 2019 and shortly resumed shooting for his film, ‘Angrezi Medium’. The film hit screens on March 13 but its theatrical run was cut short due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Irrfan Khan is one of the very few actors from Indian cinema to have made a mark in Hollywood. In 2011, he won his first National Film Award for his performance in ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. The same year, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour for his contribution to the field of arts.
