Actress Dhanya Mary Varghese arrested for a cheating case

Mollywood actress Dhanya Mary Varghese has been arrested by the police in connection with a fraud case. She was was taken into police custody with her husband John Jacob and his brother Samuel from Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu.

Her father-in-law, Jacob Samson was arrested by the Crime Branch last month over flat sale fraud. Jacob Samson is the chairman of Samson and Sons Builders and Developers Limited, which he runs with his two sons John and Sam. Dhanya Mary Varghese was the director of the company and in charge of the sales department.

The firm has was accused of luring the investors on the pretext of paying high-interest rates. They collected money amounting to around Rs 30 crore from about 80 people.

Several complaints were filed against them in many police stations in Thiruvananthapuram. The complainants alleged that the accused had duped several of them of huge sums after promising construction of flats.

Dhanya, her husband John Jacob and his brother Sam will be produced before the court today itself.

Dhanya has acted in about 20 films, notable among them are Mohanlal’s Pranayam and Red Chillies and Mammootty’s Drona 2010. She mostly worked in the Malayalam film industry.

Her husband John Jacob has also appeared in director Lal’s thriller movie Tournament. They got married in 2012 and have a 3 year old son.
