Allu Arjun’s Duvvada Jagannadham beats Salman Khan’s Tubelight

Last Friday, we witnessed the release of two highly anticipated films; Salman Khan’s Tubelight and the Allu Arjun starrer Duvvada Jagannadham. Tubelight marked the reunion of Salman with Kabir Khan after the blockbuster success of Bhajrangi Bhaijaan. So the expectations were naturally sky-high among the audience.

However, Tubelight has failed to live up to the expectations and was opened to lukewarm response from the audience. The film received mixed reviews from the critics and has managed to gross only Rs 64.77 crores at the domestic box office.

Similar was the case in the overseas markets as well. Tubelight has not managed to do the expected business. In the US box office, the Allu Arjun starrer DJ aka Duvvada Jagannadham has had better collections than Tubelight.

Duvvada Jagannadham has surpassed the opening day collections as well as the opening weekend figures of Tubelight. The Allu Arjun starrer has raked in USD 873,249 (Rs. 5.62 cr) from 190 screens while Tubelight released in 342 screens has managed to earn only USD 757,472 (Rs. 4.88 cr).

Tubelight was expected to do massive business considering the huge pre-release hype. However, as it turns out, the Salman Khan starrer is facing some stiff competition from DJ- Duvvada Jagannadham.

The Allu Arjun starrer is an action romance entertainer, written and directed by Harish Shankar. Duvvada Jagannadham stars model turned actor Pooja Hegde as the female lead. The movie is produced by Dil Raju under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations.
