Assault on Bhavana; Tovino Thomas stresses about the need to address the issue

Industry insiders have still not come to terms with the shocking attack on actress Bhavana in a moving car in Kochi. The incident happened late on Saturday, when a gang barged into her car and assaulted her while also forcibly taking some obscene photographs. Industry colleagues have expressed their solidarity and support to Bhavana who put a brave face by filong a case against the miscreants without fearing the media and her image. But some news channels, in the name of sensationalising the news have indulged in adding new stories out of their weird imagination. Celebrities and common men have raised their voice against such cheap stunts to increase their TRP ratings.

Tovino Thomas wrote on his Facebook page about the need to address the issue and the zero credibility shown by the news channels. Since it’s a sexual assault, the actor has refrained from mentioning the name of the victim in his post.

“Absolutely shocked by what a friend has been subjected to, in the last few hours. The already insecure feeling for women here has become multifold. I was assured she is safe and well at home, but the whole thing has been alarming. Firstly the inhuman behaviour of men, regardless of similar wombs from where they came. And then the trauma of fear. Fear for how the helpless situation will be perceived. Fear of how the incident will be projected. And fear for the consequences. Already, “social channels” with zero credibility are running their shows on digital media. Let’s not immerse in the incident; look at the issue that needs addressing, the bigger picture.“
