“Can’t believe I won the best actress award”, exclaims a visibly moved Surabhi Lakshmi

The 64th National Film Awards were announced today. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar won the award for Best Actor for his work in Rustom while Malayali actress Surabhi Lakshmi was honoured with the best actress award for Minnaminungu.

Surabhi was in Muscat as the part of a programme when she was informed about the award. She was received with bouquets by the organizers of the show in Salala. The actress was delighted to have been won such a prestigious award.

A visibly emotional Surabhi said that she never expected to win the award. She beamed that she would have stayed back home if she had any clue about the award. Even she was informed about winning an award, Surabhi thought it to be a jury mention. She thanked her director Anil Thomas, Manoj Ramsingh and her co-stars Krishnan Balakrishnan and Prem Prakash.

Surabhi also won a special mention for her performance in Minnaminungu in the recently announced Kerala State Awards and the Film Critics Award. She is the fifth actress from Malayalam to win the National Award after Sarada, Monisha, Sobhana and Meera Jasmine. The actress has played minor roles in around 20 movies and appeared in tele-serials. She is very popular among the Malayali audience thanks to her character Paathu in the TV show titled M80 Moosa.

Malayalam cinema won seven awards in the 64th National Awards including the one for best actress. Mohanlal won the Special Jury award for his performance in Janatha Garage, Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol.
