Cinema strike finally called off
According to official reports from trustworthy sources, the tussle be between Kerala Film Producers Association and Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation, which on December 16 has finally been resolved. Reportedly, the Exhibitors associations have withdrawn their demand for 50 percent revenue share of box-office collection. The decision was made followed by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s intervention.
The theatre owners association Exhibitors Federation led by president Liberty Basheer had demanded a 50-50 share from the theatrical collections of new releases. The producers and distributors opposed the demand claiming that they will have to face huge losses. Also, they questioned the condition of theatres in Kerala.
Many rounds of talks were held between the two parties, but they stood firmly in their stand. Minister in charge of Cinema affairs, AK Balan organised a meeting between the two associations in Wadakkanchery but the meeting went in vain. Following that the government put forward a suggestion for a judicial commision which the theatre opposed.
However, the exhibitors have now agreed to follow the same old 40-60 ratio revenue share (60 percent revenue for Producers) for the time being till the Government arrives at a decision.
The Christmas releases that had to be postponed following the cinema will now get a release date. Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri are expected to hit the screens in the coming days. We will update about the release dates soon. Stay tuned
