Darbar fails to beat Sarkar in Chennai city opening day gross!

Amidst huge expectations, Rajinikanth starrer ‘Darbar’ hit screens worldwide yesterday. As expected, the film has taken a massive opening at all the centres. The official opening day figures from the Tamil Nadu box office is yet to be out. However, in Chennai city gross, ‘Darbar’ has failed to beat Vijay’s ‘Sarkar’ and the superstar’s own ‘2.0’. But it is worth a mention that Abirami Mega Mall, a big multiplex in the city isn’t in operation currently. So that has had a impact on the figures.

Note: Abirami Mega Mall isn’t in operation from Feb2019; hence Darbar misses a big potential gross center

These three are the only 2CR+ opening day Chennai city grossers.

‘Darbar’ has opened to largely positive reviews, with popular opinion being, ‘it’s a complete Rajinikanth show and a treat for the fans’. Director AR Murugadoss has followed the template rule of helming a superstar film and it making it as a crowd pleaser, which has paid off to a large extent.
