Director Ranjith has presented a different Rajinikanth in Kaala!

2018 will be an eventful year for Rajinikanth as he has two films set for release apart from his political works. While the whole nation is waiting for his magnum opus 2.0, fans are very much excited about Kaala. Pa Ranjith is directing this gangster flick and Rajinikanth plays the titular role in the movie. It is his second film with the director after last year’s Kabali.

In a recent interactive session with his fans, Rajinikanth sounded very optimistic about Kaala. He said that director Ranjith has presented a different dimension of Rajinikanth in Kaala. Though Kabali could not live up to the massive hype, critics praised Ranjith for bringing back the actor in Rajinikanth rather than the star, that we get to see more often.

Kaala is about a Tamil guy who runs away in his childhood to Mumbai to become a powerful don living in the slums. Rajinikanth plays Kaala, a don who heads the Tamil community in Dharavi. The movie has a strong supporting cast which includes several noted North Indian actors in the cast. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is playing the female lead, but she is not paired opposite Rajinikanth.

Multiple national award winner Nana Patekar is playing a prominent role in the film. Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Sayaji Shinde, Sakshi Agarwal, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Ramesh Thilak and Sampath Raj are also part of the supporting cast.

Most of the technical crew of Kabali have been retained for Kaala, with only Sreekar Prasad, the veteran, replacing Praveen KL as the editor. Pa Ranjith’s regular Santhosh Narayanan is handling the music department.

Rajinikanth’s son-in-law actor Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films is producing this movie in association with Lyca Productions. The makers are planning to dub and release Kaala in Hindi and Telugu as well. It is scheduled to release a couple of months after 2.0, which slated to hit screens on April 14.
