Director Shankar Opens Up on Indian 2 Criticism, Confirms Indian 3 for Theatres
Director Shankar recently addressed the criticism surrounding his 2024 release, Indian 2, in an interview with a Tamil magazine. The sequel to his 1996 classic faced harsh reviews from both critics and audiences. Speaking candidly, Shankar admitted he didn’t anticipate such negative responses but has chosen to focus on the positive impact the film has had.
“The central message, ‘If the house is clean, the nation will be clean,’ is an important idea,” Shankar said. “Even though its practical implementation can be debated, I’ve seen real-life instances inspired by the film, which makes me happy.” He cited examples of public actions, such as citizens standing against corruption and individuals turning in wrongdoers, as proof of the film’s resonance.
When asked about the future of the franchise, Shankar confirmed that Indian 3 is in the pipeline and will have a theatrical release. “I will start working on Indian 3 after completing my current projects. It will not release on OTT, as some rumors suggest,” he clarified.
The third installment will reportedly explore the origins of Veerasekaran Balaram, father of Senapathy, both iconic roles portrayed by Kamal Haasan. With renewed determination, Shankar aims to restore the franchise’s glory with Indian 3.
