Drishyam 2 climax won’t have an impact like the first part: Jeethu Joseph

‘Drishyam 2’ shoot recently got wrapped up by the makers. Though the team had planned to shoot for 56 days, proper planning and execution helped them to pack up by 46 days. Director Jeethu Joseph informed the same through his social media handle.

‘Drishyam 2’ released in 2013 was a massive blockbuster that went on to become the highest grossing Malayalam film of that time. When a sequel was announced seven years later, there were mixed talks among the audience. While some where of the opinion that classics like ‘Drishyam’ should be left untouched, many were excited to know the remaining story of Georgekutty and family.

Jeethu Joseph came up with the idea of ‘Drishyam 2’ during the pandemic-induced lockdown days. Impressed by the script, producer Antony Perumbavoor and Mohanlal green lit the project and it went on floors in September. Though Jeethu is confident about how the film has shaped up, he is still aware of the audience’s high expectations.

In a recent interview, the director reiterated that ‘Drishyam 2’ is a continuation of the first part but with no more crime and killings. According to him, the focus this time will be on the trauma of the family. Being ordinary people, they are still guilty about the crime they’ve committed and it continues to haunt them. The sequel will explore how their lives have changed post that incident and how the locals interact with them.

Jeethu is also worried that the ending of ‘Drishyam 2’ will not give the kind of kick that the audience experienced in the first part. He has warned the audience not to expect something like that. He firmly believes that it will be a good film with ample emotions and tense moments.

While Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Siddique, Asha Sharath and Esther Anil reprise their roles from ‘Drishyam’, Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Sai Kumar, Adam Ayub and Anjali Nair are the some of the new additions to the cast. DOP Satheesh Kurup, music director Anil Johnson, editor Vinayakan, art director Rajeev Kovilakam and costume designer Linda Jeethu form the core technical crew.
