“Enough of insults, take back the National Award!” says Akshay Kumar

The 64th National Film Awards were announced earlier. Akshay Kumar had bagged the best actor award for his performance in Rustom. The jury’s decision to give the actor the award without noticing the fantastic performances by actors like Manoj Bajpai (Aligarh), Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Raman Raghav 2.0) and Aamir Khan (Dangal) were questioned by man.

Everybody had criticized Akshay Kumar by saying that it was only because of Priyadarshan he had won the award. Priyadarshan is a good friend of Akshay and had headed the jury for the award selection process. During an award ceremony recently Akshay had openly commented that he is even ready to return the award back to the jury!

“It was before 26 years that I had recieved a National award. I never stick to the fact the people put up, these are often heard when an actor recieves an award. I have been hearing this from the past 25 years. They would come up with the statement that this guy should have not got, this guy was more eligibe., etc. I am fed up with such insults and is also ready to give the award back to the jury” he said.

Priyadarshan had earlier responded to the issue and clarified that Akshay Kumar’s performance in both Rustom and Airlift were considered by the jury during the selection process. But, on basis of the rules only the name of one film could be mentioned. That’s how we selected Rustom. Priyadarshan has worked with Akshay Kumar in 6 flicks like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhaag, Bhool Bhulaiya, De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha.
