Gautham Menon acquires the remake rights of Kappela

Tamil filmmaker Gautham Menon has bagged the remake rights of Malayalam film, ‘Kappela’. It is not yet known if he is planning to direct the Tamil version as well. Besides this, Gautham Menon had also acquired the remake rights of the recently released hit Kannada film, ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana’.

‘Kappela’ directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Muhammed Mustafa tells the story of a young woman from a rural background who gets trapped in a particular situation and how she comes out of it. Basically, the film showcases how human perceptions can go awfully wrong. Though ‘Kappela’ didn’t have a successful theatrical run, it got its due after its release in Netflix. The film won Anna Ben the Kerala State Award for Best Actor. Muhammed Mustafa also adjudged the Best Debut Director.

Meanwhile, ‘Kappela’ is also getting remade in Telugu. Sithara Entertainments, who had backed blockbuster films like ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramulo’ and ‘Jersey’, own the Telugu remake rights.
