Guneet Monga boards India’s Oscar entry Jallikattu as Executive Producer!

As we already know, Malayali filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’ is India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. Guneet Monga, the founder of the popular production house Sikhya Entertainment, has jointly the team as Executive Producer. They had recently co-produced the Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

Guneet Monga is one of the most revered names in the film industry. In 2018, her production venture, ‘Period. End Of Sentence’ had won the Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject). She has also produced several other critically acclaimed projects like the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ franchise, ‘Peddlers’, ‘Masaan’, and ‘The Lunchbox’.

Guneet Monga is one of the first Indian producers to be inducted into the producer branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts And Sciences. So her association with ‘Jallikattu’ could prove to be a huge booster for the team. According to Lijo Jose Pellissery, Gueent Monga was one of the first to watch ‘Jalikattu’ after its completion.

About ‘Jallikattu’, Guneet said, it is a high-octane masterpiece backed by outstanding music and stunning visuals. She also added a few words about Lijo Jose Pellissery. “Lijo is a phenomenal director who has the power to disrupt the global cinema. He is a significant voice from India and cinema needs fresh vision like his.”

‘Jallikattu’ had earlier premiered at the Toronto International Fim Festival (TIFF). Later, it was screened at all major film festivals across the world including Busan, London, Rotterdam and Stockholm. Lijo even won best director at the International Film Festival of India, Goa, in 2019. It was his second successive award after bagging it for ‘Ee Maa Yau’.
