I’ve done only 50% of what Fahadh Faasil did in Maheshinte Prathikaram: Udhayanidhi Stalin

It is already known that Priyadarshan is remaking the super hit Malayalam movie Maheshinte Prathikaram in Tamil. Udhayinidhi Stalin is playing the lead role in this movie titled as Nimir. Malayali actresses Namitha Pramod and Parvatii Nair will be seen as the two female leads.

Maheshinte Prathikaram is unarguably one of the finest Malayalam movies in the past decades. What made it so beautiful is its relatable story, the realistic setting and endearing performances from all the actors. So, it is not a cakewalk to remake a successful movie in another langauge and adpat it to suit the sensibilities of a different set of audience. However, Priyadarshan is used to remaking films. He has time and again proved his ability to remake movies without losing the essence of the original version.

As per reports, the director has done a great job with remaking Maheshinte Prathikaram as Nimir. There were a of apprehensions about how Udhayanidhi Stalin will be able to do justice to a character that Fahadh Faasil did remarkably well. But it now looks like Priyadarshan was spot-on with his casting as Udhayinidhi is said to have delivered one of his best ever performances.

In a recent interview, he said, “After watching the film in a preview show, my wife appreciated me saying that I have done a better job than Manithan. I have done only 50% of what Fahadh Faasil did in the original but happy that she loved my performance.”

Regarding why he roped in Udhayanidhi, Priyadarshan said, “I wanted Udhay to behave for the situation and not to act. The film required an actor with the boy next door image and we adapted the original version with necessary commercial ingredients”.

Priyadarshan has slightly tweaked the original script by giving more prominence to humour so as to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Actor Samuthirakani is penning the dialogues and he is also playing the villain role in the movie. MS Bhaskar, director Mahendran and Karunakaran are also part of the supporting cast.

Priyadarshan has retained most of his technicians from Oppam for this upcoming movie also. NK Ekambaram is wielding the camera and MS Ayyappan Nair is handling the edits. Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment is producing this movie, which is slated to hit screens on January 26.
