Jalam, is one of the critically acclaimed film from Mollywood which has got great appreciation in various film festivals and also in news for entering the Oscar nomination list from India for its soulful music. The film directed by popular director M Padmakumar and written by TS Suresh Babu is financed by TA Andrews. It is also known as the first Charity film in the world as the money gets for the film from theaters and all that will be used for charity. The film will soon hit the screens all over and the money it gets from the theaters will be used to build houses for the poor people who is homeless and needs support.

Priyanka Nair had played the lead role in the film and she also got great appreciation for her performance in the movie. The film depicts life of a woman whose struggles to live on with her kid after her husband dies in an accident. The flick gives us the strong will of the woman who strives hard to move forward in life and faces many challenges for a piece of land to live in the city.

Ouseppachan had scored the music for this film. Apart from Priyanka Nair, actors like Prakash Bare, Jain Syriac, Sethu Lakshmi, P Balachandran also a part of this film. Padmakumar had directed many films here in Mollywood and his noted films are Vasthavam and Shikkar. Vasthavam which had Prithviraj in the lead won him the award for best actor in State Film awards. It was his first state award. Shikkar starring Mohanlal was his biggest commercial success which released in the year 2010. His last release was Kanal, starred by Mohanlal and Anoop Menon. But unfortunately it was a commercial failure even though got some good reviews from the critic’s point of view.

He had films like Ammakkilikoodu, Vargam, Parunthu, Pathira Manal, Thiruvambadi Thamban, Orissa etc to his credit. He was the associate of famous director Renjith before he started his career as an independent director through Ammakkili Koodu.
