Lijo Jose Pelissery has once again brought glory to Malayalam industry as Film Federation of India has chosen his most recent film ‘Jallikattu’ as India’s official entry at Oscars in the International Feature Film category. The Press Trust of India broke the news through their Twitter handle. Their tweet reads,
Malayalam film ‘Jallikattu’ India’s official entry at Oscars in International Feature Film category: Film Federation of India
‘Jallikattu’ is only the third Malayalam film after ‘Guru’ (1997) and ‘Adaminte Makan’ (2011) to represent India at the Oscars. ‘Jallikattu’ is one of the most talked about films in Indian cinema in recent years. Last September, the film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival and received phenomenal response from both the foreign and Indian critics. It had its theatrical release in India on October 4 and did good business at the box office as well.
Lijo also won numerous accolades including the Kerala State award and the prestigious award for Best Director at the 50th Indian International Film Festival (IFFI), Goa. It was his second consecutive Best Director award at the IFFI after bagging the honour for ‘Ee Maa Yau’ in the 2018 edition.
