Joju George-Nimisha starrer Chola opens to positive reviews!

It is not yet often that a film that does well in the festival circles get a proper theatrical release. But films like ‘Jallikkattu’, ‘Moothon’ and more recently ‘Chola’ are changing that trend. Joju George-Nimisha Sajayan starrer ‘Chola’ got released in a good number of screens across Kerala yesterday (December 6).

The film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, as expected, has opened to largely positive reviews. Along with Sanal’s excellent filmmaking, the performances of the lead actors, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and debutant Akhil Vishwanath, have been getting widespread appreciation.

‘Chola’ is said to be a dark thriller that revolves around a school going girl’s journey with a middle-aged man. Director Sanal has scripted the film jointly with KV Manikandan. Joju’s and Nimisha’s performance in the film were considered while honouring them with the State Awards last year. Sanal Kumar got a Special Jury Mention for direction as well as sound design.

Earlier this year, ‘Chola’ had its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival. It is only the third Malayalam film to be screened at the prestigious festival.
