Kanneshwara : Mohanlal to act with Kannada superstar Upendra

After delivering blockbusters in Tollywood and Mollywood, Mohanlal is now moving to Sandalwood for an upcoming project.

Mohanlal will join hands with actor/director Upendra aka Uppi for a new film tentatively titled as Kanneshwara. This movie will be directed by Naganna.

Though the title sounds like a devotional kind of movie, sources indicate that it is a completely commercial entertainer. Shoot for the movie has already been started in Bangalore.

Earlier it was rumoured that Upendra will be acting in the remake of Bollywood’s superhit movie Special 26 which had Akshay Kumar in the lead. But it is learnt that he will be first doing Kanneshwara before moving to other projects.

Mohanlal’s last movie in Kannada was Mythri with superstar Puneeth Rajkumar. It was widely acclaimed as one of the best movies Kannada industry.

So naturally when Mohanlal is again joining hands with another popular actor of Sandalwood, expectations are very high. It will be a treat for fans of both the actors to watch two superstars together on screen.

Popular South Indian actress Vedhika will play the female lead in this film. Sources inform that the female lead is also a very important character in the movie.

The makers are planning to produce the movie as a multilingual. With Mohanlal’s rising popularity in Tollywood, the makers are trying to make the movie in Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.

Mohanlal made his debut in Tollywood this year with Vismayam. His second movie Janatha Garage with Jr NTR was a smashing blockbuster collecting over 100 crores from the box office.

His last two releases in Mollywood, Oppam and Pulimurugan are also blockbusters with the latter becoming the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club.

Mohanlal is currently shooting for Major Ravi’s upcoming movie 1971 : Beyond Borders in Rajasthan. Munthiri Vallikalal Thalirkkumbol directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob is his next release, slated to grace screens for the Christmas season.
